    Heavy rains earlier this week flooded roads and caused rivers to rise across KwaZulu-Natal, once again disrupting daily life for many residents. Ashburton resident Shirley Bradshaw couldn’t return home in the afternoon due to a flooded bridge on Tuesday. The South African Weather Service (Saws) had issued a level four alert for disruptive rain and the storm caused flooding on several low-lying bridges, leaving several informal settlements, as well as roads across the province, flooded.

    After nearly 10 years of inactivity, Ithala Centre in Bell Street, Howick, is gearing up for a long-awaited comeback — with national retailer Shoprite leading the charge as the anchor tenant. The revival of the centre has been confirmed by Rubik Design Forge, the principal consultants overseeing the project. According to Brendan Hawkins, from Rubik, the refurbished shopping hub is expected to officially open its doors in August.

    The community of Nseleni, in Kranskop, has expressed relief following the sentencing of Ayanda Fulela (29), who brutally murdered his 72-year-old grandmother in December last year. The Greytown Regional Court recently sentenced Fulela to life imprisonment for murder, along with an additional 10 years for violating his grandmother’s corpse. Umzinyathi District police spokesperson, Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana, said Fulela was found guilty of both charges.
