    A fresh search for missing Leicestershire girl Madeleine McCann is getting under way in Portugal, with officers gathering in countryside a few miles from the resort where she was last seen in 2007. Madeleine, then aged three, disappeared while on holiday with her Rothley family in the resort of Praia da Luz after her parents went out to dinner and left her sleeping in a room with her toddler twin siblings.

    Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg is due to be sentenced after he admitted abusing his estranged wife over the course of five years. He previously pleaded guilty to a single charge of domestic abuse of his ex-partner, Gillian Hogg, when he appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court on November 4. He admitted shouting and swearing, tracking her movements and sending her messages which were alarming and distressing in nature.

    The funeral of Scottish comedian Janey Godley will take place on November 30 as part of a two-day “final tour” of the cities she loved, her daughter has said. Godley died on November 2 aged 63 after receiving palliative treatment for terminal cancer. In a post on social media her daughter Ashley Storrie said the hearse will travel through Edinburgh, her “beloved festival home”, on Friday November 29 before travelling “home to Glasgow”.

    A man whose asthmatic son died in his jail cell at Addiewell Prison after testing positive for covid has said the Scottish Covid-19 Inquiry must deliver accountability. Alan Inglis spoke on the second anniversary of the death of his son, Calum, who died at the age of 34 after he was never seen by a nurse. Alan says he passed away “without help, without dignity”.
