Pubs will be able to stay open until 1am to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day. The Prime Minister has ordered that pubs and bars that usually close at 11pm be able to keep serving for an extra two hours on Thursday May 8 to celebrate. Sir Keir Starmer said: βAs we mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the whole country should come together to remember the incredible sacrifices made by the wartime generation and to celebrate the peace and freedom they secured for us all.

Fewer children in London have secured a place at their first choice of primary school despite an overall drop in demand for places across the capital. Overall, 87.9% of pupils who applied to start at a London primary school this autumn received an offer from their first preference, compared with 89.1% last year, figures show. The number of applications for places at primary schools in the capital has fallen again this year.

Eurostar services from London serve Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam, as well as running seasonal ski trains to the French Alps. Getlink β the French owner of the Channel Tunnel β believes there is the potential for services between London and locations such as Bordeaux, Cologne, Frankfurt, Geneva, Marseille and Zurich.
