In an attack earlier this year, Iranian hackers allegedly stole an internal Republican campaign vetting document containing information about vice presidential candidate JD Vance. They then tried to leak this information to the media, presumably to harm the Republican campaign. But the influence campaign failed. The media reported on the Iranian cyberattack instead of on the leaked data itself. That was in the summer.
