    Germany’s federal elections took place on the 23rd of February, resulting in a decisive victory for the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its Bavarian sister party the Christian Social Union (CSU). The CDU received 28.6 percent of the vote, and 208 seats in the Bundestag. Every member of the collapsed “traffic light” coalition lost seats.

    If we care about this civilization we must defend it. JD Vance was right in his 14 February Munich speech and Europe would do well to heed his words. Relying on America for our protection was short-sighted and now may well be unsafe. We are so occupied with the enemies within, we have become lazy and insulated, thanks to American defense spending, from the helpful anxiety of having to think about the enemy without.

    For all the high talk about good diplomacy throughout yesterday’s meeting between Zelensky, Trump, and Vance, it was the one thing most notably absent. Beginning in the formulaic manner of these meetings before the press, the discussion was soon derailed and the talks exploded. An excruciating watch.

    In Part 1 I introduced artificial intelligence research and its dangers. Perhaps artificial super-intelligence will come about so quickly that, unless we are extremely and immediately careful, it destroys us. But perhaps, as some experts predict, it will come about slowly and gradually. Maybe we’ll see its rise coming, and have a few decades to get ready by coordinating with China to ensure adequate safeguards. In Part 2 I looked at the differences between AI and human diplomacy.
