(WBTV/Gray News) - The principal of a school in North Carolina addressed students and their families in a message after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was on the school’s campus in Charlotte Monday. In the message, the principal of Charlotte East Language Academy (CELA) said ICE was present near the school’s drop-offline Monday, but did not provide any further information. CELA is a full Spanish immersion magnet school for K-8 students.

MAGNOLIA, N.C. (WBTV) - A man armed with an ax was shot and killed by North Carolina homeowners when he tried to break in this past weekend, deputies said. The Duplin County Sheriff’s Office said the would-be intruder tried to break into a home on Sheffield Road in the town of Magnolia around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 11. As he tried to get in, officials said the homeowners fired multiple shots at the man.

CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) - A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Cabarrus County on Tuesday afternoon. The warning was originally set to expire at 2 p.m., and did not include any other counties. Tuesday’s warning came as the chance for rain and a few storms was in the forecast, although the day was never expected to be a washout. The threat for severe weather Tuesday was at the lowest level. More rain and storms are possible Wednesday as well.

RIDGEWAY, S.C. (WBTV) - A manufacturing company has chosen to put a new factory in South Carolina, which will create 135 new jobs. The company, Mega Metal, makes copper wire for the automotive, medical, aerospace and defense industries. Mega Metal’s 91,000-square-foot South Carolina location will be on Blue Granite Parkway in Ridgeway, and will make superfine electrolytic oxygen-free (EOF) copper wire. To get the new facility started up, Mega Metal is investing $34 million.
