Gateway Transitional Care Center holds groundbreaking for building remodel

POCATELLO — Gateway Transitional Care Center recently broke ground on its new outpatient therapy clinic that will provide them with more space to care for senior citizens and others. Gavin Monteath, CEO of Gateway Transitional Care Center, said this project will remodel two of the basement floors. The space used to be part of the old hospital. "The bottom floor used to be the psychiatric wing of the old Bannock County Hospital," Monteath said.

POCATELLO — A new South Fourth Avenue restaurant will be open to both night owls and early risers who are craving a taste of authentic Mexican food. Victor Guillen owns the new restaurant called Birrieria El Antojo with various members of his family. It is located at 408 S. Fourth Ave. in Pocatello and it offers 24-hour service to its customers. "We opened it because we wanted to bring good food to Idaho," Guillen said.

The Water Rocket Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday and Sunday at Tydeman Park on North Eighth Avenue and East Young Street, according to a news release from Idaho State University.

POCATELLO — The Pocatello Municipal Band is set to hold its first concert of the summer season on Sunday with a lineup of patriotic music to put the community in the spirit for the Fourth of July. Kerrie Tolman, director of the Pocatello Municipal Band, said the first concert will be held at the Guy Gates Memorial Band Shell at Lower Ross Park at 7 p.m. this Sunday. "It's a community band made up of professional and nonprofessional musicians," Tolman said about the Pocatello Municipal Band.

Retreat organizer Brandi Garrett said it will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at NBC Historical Park at 587 East 1250 North in Shelley. "It's something I wanted to put together for women in or around our community who are interested in another option for schooling," Garrett said.

POCATELLO — Local children's amusement center Jump In is temporarily teaming up with the Pocatello Valley Montessori School so they can continue to provide local youth with joy and laughter following the recent demolition of much of the Pine Ridge Mall. Jump In didn't have anywhere to go after the area of the mall where the amusement center was located closed for its meeting with a wrecking ball.

BLACKFOOT — The new owners of one of Blackfoot’s premier steakhouses have renamed the restaurant and added new side dishes to its menu, providing more options to customers while continuing to remain a community staple. David Carpenter and his wife Julie became the owners of the Teton House at the beginning of this year. He said the restaurant located at 80 N. Broadway St. will now be known as Taste of Teton. They are renaming the restaurant to avoid confusion.
