In an Australian first, a woman from Brisbane has unknowingly given birth to a baby whose genetics belong to strangers. The error was discovered in February, with Monash IVF blaming human error on the mix-up. The baby is now believed to be a toddler. While experts are saying this case is "unprecedented" in Australia, it's happened multiple times in the US, with cases hitting the headlines as early as 1999. It's led to questions about whether stricter regulations need to be enforced here.

Experts say the ongoing bird flu outbreak has reduced Australia's egg-laying population, in turn reducing egg availability. Egg stocks dipped further over the traditional summer peak period and it is unclear when supply will return to normal levels.

The Victorian government has named 25 more Melbourne areas where it plans to "shake up" planning rules to increase housing density. The locations — centred around tram and train stations — have been unveiled in addition to 25 locations announced in October, in the government's latest plan to address housing supply and affordability. Another 10 activity centres were part of an earlier pilot program, meaning there are 60 locations in total slated for fast-tracked residential planning.
