    Six in 10 school support staff in Winnipeg’s inner-city and central neighbourhoods have considered quitting their jobs over the last year. That’s according to a recent workforce survey undertaken by the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union. MGEU represents about 1,800 employees, the majority of whom are educational assistants, in the Winnipeg School Division.

    The Louis Riel School Division has suspended the operations of one of its 41 parent advisory councils amid a stalemate surrounding controversial catchment changes. The volunteer-run collective at J.H. Bruns Collegiate has been in limbo for the better part of the 2024-2025 school year. The group’s last regular meeting with administrators at the Grade 9-12 school in Southdale took place in September. The council was formally put on hiatus in February.

Manitoba children and youth are — at least on paper — required to recite an ode to the reigning constitutional monarch on all regular school days, either during morning announcements or before dismissal.
