The UK government has unveiled a sweeping £3bn overhaul of apprenticeship funding, aimed at increasing possibilities for young people and reducing skills shortages. From January 2026, employers will only be able to use apprenticeship levy funds to support level 7 (master’s level) for existing apprentices and those aged 16-21, under reforms announced yesterday (27 May).

Inadequate parental leave and financial pressures are forcing UK parents back to work earlier than they would like, a study has revealed. In theWorking Families Index 2025, based on a survey of 3,000 working parents, four in 10 (40 per cent) mothers said they were unable to take the right amount of time off they needed following childbirth. Meanwhile, one in five (21 per cent) fathers reported having no entitlement to parental leave at all.
