The Environment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2024 (Bill) aims to provide more certainty around the timeframe for decisions on applications for licences from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the energy, food, pharma, chemicals, waste and other industrial sectors. It will complement the statutory timelines being introduced under the Planning and Development Bill 2023.

RESS 4 is the fourth auction held under the Irish Government’s Renewable Electricity Support Scheme. See our recap of RESS here. EirGrid, as Ireland’s Transmission System Operator, is responsible for ensuring the balance of supply and demand on the Irish electricity system. EirGrid does this by a process of directing energy generators to increase or reduce supply and/or directing demand response facilities to increase or reduce their demand (referred to as “dispatch” and “re-dispatch”) in accordance with Irish Single Electricity Market (SEM) rules.

The Accelerating Renewable Electricity (ARE) Taskforce has published its Implementation Plan to support Ireland’s achievement of its onshore renewable electricity targets by 2030. The ARE Taskforce is comprised of Government departments (including DECC and DETE) and State bodies (including EirGrid and CRU) that are key to delivering Ireland’s energy transition.
