Politics in Narva, a majority Russian-speaking town on the eastern border, are idiosyncratic even compared with the rest of Ida-Viru County. While the region was traditionally a Center Party stronghold, this has been in decline since 2019, leaving a power vacuum and frequent changes in Narva's governing coalition. Any new coalition agreement would only be a stop-gap measure ahead of the October 2025 local elections.

What is your first reaction to Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election? It is clear that it was not possible to commit election fraud at the level of 2020 or using similar tricks this time around. The Republicans had prepared for it, determined how ballots were ordered, filled out, who distributed them and how activists were used to perpetrate fraud on a massive scale. It did not work this time. That is one comment I have.

Closer inspection revealed the snake was not a deadly new species, but instead a rather unusually colored adder (Vipera berus), Estonia's only venomous snake and also known as the Common European Viper. The peculiarity of the find lay in the absence of the characteristic zigzag back pattern typically found on adders, which led experts initially to question whether it was indeed that species or instead a harmless grass snake (Natrix natrix).

"Through the Baltic Security Initiative (BSI), established in 2020, the U.S. Department of Defense, at the suggestion of the U.S. Congress, has supported the development of the Baltic states' independent defense capabilities and interoperability. That support has been increasing in recent years," Estonian Ministry of Defense spokesperson Bretty Sarapuu told ERR. A total of $228 million USD has been allocated to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania this year.

The Commission prepared a report under Article 126(3) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union for 12 member states, including Estonia, to assess their compliance with the deficit criterion set out in the Treaty. Ministry of Defense Permanent Secretary Kusti Salm announced his resignation on Wednesday saying the government was refusing to buy critical ammunition worth €1.6 billion. Officials said they were unaware, but Herem said both he and Salm had made their views clear to the government. Herem's 20-page briefing, seen by ERR, states the EDF is shifting its development from close combat to deep combat, which would give Estonia the ability to destroy the enemy from further away.

A bill drawn up by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications (MKM) will abolish state-funded unemployment benefits (töötutoetus), leaving only the unemployment insurance benefit (töötuskindlustushüvitis) paid by the EUIF. The latter is funded via unemployment insurance premiums (töötuskindlustusmaksed) currently paid at a rate of 1.6 percent by employees and 0.8 percent by employers.

Tallinn has rental or right of superficies contracts with MPEÕK for a total of three plots, while the Ministry of the Interior has given the church use of four buildings for a symbolic rental fee. MPEÕK has a 36-year rental contract for the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral at Lossi plats 10 in Toompea from 2001.
