Cameron Park board candidates share thoughts with voters

The six candidates running for a seat on the Cameron Park Community Service District took center stage earlier this to partake in open discussion and answer questions brought forth by Cameron Park residents. Sid Bazett, Tracy Doyle, JR Hichborn, Katie Gilchrest, Liz Gates and Barabra Rogers are running for two open seats on the CPCSD Board of Directors.
Homeless shelter plans pitched and then tossed in Cameron Park

Vehement opposition and accusations of attempting to sneak through approval of a homeless shelter at the Cameron Park Community Services District campus have derailed Housing El Dorado's plan to rent space from the district. Days after a heated Oct. 16 CPCSD Board of Directors meeting, the nonprofit withdrew its proposal for an Inclement Weather Lodging Program in an unused classroom for 29 nights during the period of Nov. 15 through March 31, 2025.
Bruins' ship rocked by the Raiders at Friday night game

The woes and losses continue to roll in for the Ponderosa Bruins as they dropped their third game in the last four contests, with a 17-6 loss to the Rio Americano Raiders. The lone score for the Bruins came on a catch-and-run from junior receiver Ben Bailey, who provided a bright spot in a rather dull offensive performance for the Bruins. The Bruins had several self-inflicted wounds as they committed three turnovers that killed drives just as they were building momentum.
Diamondbacks caught in stampede

The Union Mine Diamondbacks undefeated league record is no more after a 35-0 shutout loss at the hands of the Bradshaw Christian Pride. The Diamondbacks were able to build momentum throughout the game on several drives, but failed to capitalize. On the other side of the ball, they failed to stop the rushing attack Bradshaw Christian brought to them.

The 5-year-old silver tabby is one of Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode's many success stories. Called Lisa while at the Diamond Springs facility, the cat was found as a stray momma with two small kittens in El Dorado Hills. Animal Outreach's caring team treated her health problems, including removing her left eye due to trauma and completing dental procedures, shortly after her kittens were weaned. She healed nicely and was ready for a new home.
Oak Ridge bulldozed by Bulldogs

The Oak Ridge Trojans and Folsom Bulldogs rivalry remains one sided, as the latest chapter was a 35-7 loss for the varsity football squad. The Trojans have not defeated the Bulldogs since the 2006-07 season. The Trojans struggled to get their offense rolling early, mustering their first first down of the game late in the first quarter.

With wins over the Inderkum Tigers and Woodcreek Timberwolves last week, the Ponderosa Bruins flag football team is close to a league title. The Bruins blasted the Tigers on Monday, Sept. 30, with a score of 40-0 and then escaped a nail-biter with Woodcreek with a one-point win to remain unbeaten. The Timberwolves seemed to be the biggest test for the Bruins, yet PHS has come out on top in both meetings. The Bruins are ranked as one of the top 20 teams in the nation and top 10 in the state.
Meet CPCSD candidate Barbara Rogers

Barbara Rogers has been a resident of Cameron Park since 1991 and started attending Cameron park Community Services Board of Directors' meetings in early 2003 after she retired. She has since become a fixture at meetings and known well amongst residents as a person with a strong, outspoken voice on many topics related to her community. When Rogers speaks at the podium, some audience members can be seen nodding along with her statements.
El Dorado falls short in cat fight

A cat fight between the El Dorado Cougars and the Bradshaw Christian Pride ended in a 35-6 loss for the Cougars. The Cougars were riding in high after stacking back-to-back wins against East Nicolaus and in their league opener against Argonaut. "We challenged our guys to come out after halftime and fight," El Dorado head coach Kevin Placek said. "We knew we were better than what we showed in the first half and they answered the call."The Cougars were down 27-0 at the half after their slow start.
Meet CPCSD candidate Sidney Bazett

Sidney Bazett has been a Cameron Park resident since 1997 and is the only incumbent on the ballot running to keep his seat on the Cameron Park Community Services District Board of Directors. Bazett retired from a career in education, during which he worked in administration and as a school psychologist. He now works as a real estate investor in Cameron Park.
