Nagpur: Under its state-wide initiative to launch smart prepaid meters, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) plans to roll out 52,06,982 such meters in Vidarbha. Out of these, nearly 5.2 lakh meters will be installed in Nagpur circle. According to officials, the work is expected to start from January next year and the smart meters will be ready by 2025.

Nagpur: In last one month, Nagpur saw the highest pollution on October 31, when the city’s air quality index was recorded at 225. Since almost a fortnight, the city has not seen even a single day when the air quality levels were good or satisfactory. According to the air quality index (AQI) data of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), there were some days when the city’s air was more toxic than that of Mumbai.

Nagpur: After constituting a tree authority, the state is now looking at empanelling an eligible firm as a tree expert agency for providing technical assistance to local civic bodies. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) recently called for expression of interest from firms having a minimum experience of seven years in plantation and conservation of trees. As per the details given by board, the agencies must comprise experts including horticulturists, botanists, ecologists and arborists.

Nagpur: Vidarbha farmers, already grappling with extreme weather events, have once again received a pittance from state power generation company Mahagenco against massive crop damage caused due to ash pond breach. Around two months back, the toe drain of Waregaon ash bund of Khaparkheda Thermal Power Station (KTPS) had overflowed following which toxic ash slurry had entered agricultural fields, destroying crops like cotton, tuar, wheat and other vegetables.

Nagpur: This October is likely to be the hottest in the last four years for the city. According to the data of Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur, the average maximum temperature in the city, as recorded till October 19, is 34.7 degree Celsius, which is the highest since 2020. Historic data shows that in 2020 and 2021, the city’s average maximum mercury levels for October were 33.7 and 33.2 degree Celsius. Last year, the average temperature dropped to 31.9 degree Celsius.
