Falling vaccination rates have doctors worried Health officials in western Texas are trying to contain a measles outbreak among mostly school-aged children, with at least 15 confirmed cases. It's the latest outbreak of a disease that had been virtually eliminated in the U.S., and it comes as vaccination rates are declining — jeopardizing the country's herd immunity from widespread outbreaks.

Routh denied bail in Florida Washington — Federal prosecutors said Monday that they will seek to charge the suspect discovered by the Secret Service with a high-powered rifle in the bushes near former President Donald Trump with attempted assassination of a political figure. Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, already faces two federal firearms charges stemming from the Sept. 15 incident outside Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Lothar Speer Routh was charged in federal court on Monday with two firearm offenses, possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and obliterating the serial number on a firearm. Additional charges related to the apparent assassination attempt could come later. If convicted on the two firearms charges, he could face a maximum sentence of 20 years. He was questioned by the judge to determine his eligibility for a public defender.

Drones used to rescue distressed swimmers Last month, two young paddleboarders found themselves stranded in the ocean, pushed 2,000 feet from the shore by strong winds and currents. Thanks to the deployment of a drone, rescuers kept an eye on them the whole time and safely brought them aboard a rescue boat within minutes. In North Carolina, the Oak Island Fire Department is one of a few in the country using drone technology for ocean rescues.
