FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The birth of a baby warthog has ushered in baby mania at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, according to officials who say they’ve seen an unprecedented number of animal births at the zoo. The zoo’s one and only piglet, Ua, was born on April 26; she is the latest animal born at the zoo over the past 10 months. “We started our year off with kind of a baby boom,” Zoological Specialist Molly Archdeacon said.

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Fresno Police have released new information about a standoff between officers and a suspect in southeast Fresno over the weekend, including the identity of the suspect. Police have named 23-year-old Andrew Garcia as the suspect they believe to be responsible for taking off after a traffic stop near Turner Avenue and Recreation Avenue. Police say they attempted to make contact with Garcia on Sunday at approximately 5:35 PM.

Organizers say anyone who visits the Randy’s Donuts location at 2369 E. Shaw Ave near Fresno State can order a free glazed classic donut. The store officially opened two months ago.

VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A student from Visalia who won second place in the Scripps National Spelling Bee came home from Washington, D.C. to find he had won first place in the hearts of his classmates and teachers. Eighth-grader Sarvadnya Kadam from Oak Grove Elementary says he went into his third year of competition with his eyes on the prize. “My first time at nationals, I was 23rd [place], my second I was 60th,” Kadam said.

(KSEE/KGPE) – The Fresno County Coroner’s Office released on Monday the identity of a woman who was found dead in a Fresno County canal. Officials say a worker reported finding what appeared to be a body in a canal located near South Newmark Avenue and East American Avenue, an area south of Sanger.
