ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A new Mayor of Saint Louis and a new public safety director. Shawn Dace, is a retired Saint Louis Police Major, he replaces Charles Coyle immediately. Dace retired from the St. Louis Police Department in February of 2025 after serving since 1980. Dace tells KMOX, he first met Mayor Cara Spencer in 2015 when she was an alderwoman and he was a newly appointed Captain in the Third District.

BERKELEY, MO (KMOX) - Over two hundred Missouri and Illinois police and sheriff's departments had representatives in Berkeley at the Renaissance Airport to make J.D. Daniel and honorary police officer. D.J. made national headlines after he was made an honorary secret service agent during President Trump's State of the Union.. DJ's dad, Theo Daniel , says, his child's brain cancer has metastasized to his spine and doctors have found three more tumors.
Federal suit filed to stop St. Louis police department state takeover

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - In an effort to halt the state from taking over the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the City is suing Missouri in Federal Court. The lawsuit says a clause in the new state law that forbids city officials from "interfering" in any way with the board violates their First Amendment rights to speak out against it. Co-plaintiff Aldermanic Board President Megan Green believes the new law is unconstitutional.
Beufort Leslie Fire Protection District Firefighter is remembered

WASHINGTON, MO (KMOX) - Sixteen year old Beaufort Leslie Volunteer Firefighter Chevy Gall is being remembered as an "old soul" by Pastor Paul Scheperle of Life Stream Church in Washington Missouri. Pastor Scheperle asked for Chevy's family to be overshadowed by God because this is a difficult day of trouble. Scheperle told family, friends and co-workers no one expects something so tragic to happen. Firefighter Gall was responding to a water rescue call during the height the storms on April 4th.

Proposition B, which would have given the county council the power to fire with or without cause, department heads falls to defeat. Almost 62-percent of Saint Louis County voters said no to Prop B, with only 38-percent supporting it.

Damage in Washington County, from what's believed to be a tornado

By Maria Keena Washington County, MO (KMOX) - Missouri Highway Troopers report a confirmed tornado touchdown approximately six miles, northwest of Potosi . Several homes and structures have been completely damaged. Troopers and local first responders made contact with residents. All are accounted for with minor injuries and zero fatalities. Vehicular traffic is not being allowed to go into the hard hit areas.
Hawley and his Missouri colleagues request audit of United Postal Service operations in St. Louis area

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Senator Josh Hawley and the entire Missouri Congressional delegation have sent a letter to United States Postal Service Inspector General Tammy Hull requesting an audit of the St. Louis region mail network. Almost a year ago, Hawley requested an audit, which was never done. Last month Postmaster General Louis DeJoy resigned. Hawley opposed DeJoy's plan that called for reducing mail service to rural areas. Hawley's letter says since last year, mail service has not improved.
Imperial man facing numerous sexual abuse charges against children

IMPERIAL, MO (KMOX) - A 43-year old Imperial man is facing numerous statutory sodomy, child enticement, and sexual misconduct charges. Christopher Moriarty is accused of committing these acts against five victims, ranging in age from 12 to 14. The probable cause statement says the victims provided graphic descriptions of the sexual acts that allegedly occurred between June 1st 2024 and March 24, 2025 at Moriarty's home.
