East Lothian Eggs Limited wants to install the turbine to allow it to produce enough green energy on the site to heat its sheds and operate its business at Howden Farm, near Gifford. A report by planning officers said that the total height of the turbine was 20 metres higher than their limit for the area and the Ministry of Defence had said that it would need infrared lights on its highest points if approved, as it was in a low-flying zone for military manoeuvres.

Officers are recommending the long-awaited proposals for Blindwells for approval when they go before East Lothian Council's planning committee next week. The plans include 65 homes including 54 affordable ones – 12 of which are for later living – a supermarket, and 12 food and retail shops. There are also plans to build 36 offices, six additional commercial units, four trade, a gym, a nursery and a wellbeing facility.
