The Scottish Languages Bill will be debated on Tuesday, and Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes has written about the legislation’s importance. Having been immersed in Gaelic medium education since the age of three, I recognise the immense benefits Gaelic brings to communities around Scotland. Living in the Highlands, I’ve seen how the language is a unique selling point for Scotland when exporting products, like whisky, or inviting visitors to the country.

I’ve watched our SNP candidate councillor Katy Loudon engage with voters and she’s got a warm, personable approach. The local SNP hub is a hive of activity with activists coming and going all day. In the midst of that, there have been a few conversations that were more disheartening, with people who told me that they don’t vote any more. At the last election, they voted Labour.

I commend Liam McArthur for the manner in which he has engaged with MSPs and others on his bill. The Health Committee’s report was typical in that regard – balanced, broad and carefully written. That is no mean feat, and it has allowed us to really consider its implications. Listening to all the speakers on both sides of the debate, it’s clear that patients are uppermost in people’s minds. Politicians must ask ourselves a very deep question: how do we, as a society, respond to suffering?

Proving that a cheap gaffer tape is one of the most valuable tools - (how else to secure a camera to a wing?) - @goktay shot this astonishing view of the #UkraineFrontLines from the air.

On a wing and a prayer....We were given rare access to helicopter pilots in Ukraine's Sikorsky Brigade who are part of war in the skies. On combat missions they have to fly as low as one or two metres off the ground. With @goktay @Wburema @N_sosnytska @Marianamatveic1 https://t.co/c7pXQymZky

Amazing work by my team - a must-watch. They barely ate or slept for days to bring this story to light - though their trials are a fraction of the suffering they saw there.

For @BBCPanorama we followed an overnight rescue mission in #Antakya led by Burak Akkurt. It was a relentless effort requiring extreme emotional strength. Full investigation into #Turkey and Syria quake and its immediate aftermath tonight on @BBCOne at 8pm https://t.co/zOvs9jN0Qf
