Angel Khanyile, a recently sworn-in DA MP, has sketched Lekwa’s situation in parliament numerous times. The Standerton Advertiser spoke to the MP at the airport the past week. “I have used various mechanisms made available to us,” Khanyile said on June 21. “Most issues I raised, unfortunately, have not received much attention.”According to her, Standerton’s biggest challenges are inconsistent water supply and inferior quality of water; unemployment; and an incorrect billing system.

Skhosana staan tereg op aanklagte van strafbare manslag en roekelose en nalatige bestuur. Dit spruit uit ’n voorval op 4 Februarie waarin Mario Iyapian en Zodwa Patricia Molebatsi die slagoffers was van ’n tref-en-trap-ongeluk in Walter Sisulurylaan. Volgens Rinus Fourie, die vader van Mario, het dit omstreeks 01:00 gebeur terwyl die twee op pad huis toe was.

Water levels continue to drop in Mpumalanga. According to the reservoir report of the Department of Water and Sanitation dated June 24, the average dam levels recorded a further drop from last week’s 94.4% to 94.2%. Levels also dropped in the water management areas with the Olifants WMA dropping from 84.9% to 84.5% and the Inkomati-Usuthu WMA dropping from 94.9% to 94.8%.

The Hawks Nelspruit-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation (Hawks) re-arrested John Edward Ndlovu (36) on June 14 on two counts of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. According to a media statement, Ndlovu was part of the ‘Ellese’ gang. The gang’s cases were withdrawn, pending ballistic reports during 2022. Upon receiving the forensic report, it linked Ndlovu to four cases through ballistics. A warrant of arrest was authorised.

Water levels of the Grootdraai Dam in Standerton continue to drop, dipping below 90%. According to the reservoir report from the Department of Water and Sanitation, dated June 17, the dam recorded a further drop from last week’s 90.4% to 89.5%. Grootdraai Dam is in the Integrated Vaal River System in the Gert Sibande District of Mpumalanga. This statistic is in line with the drops in the average dam levels and water management areas in the province.
