DevelopmentWork to reopen a Melbourne landmark has taken a step forward with the state agreeing to help fund the rescue and restoration of Luna Park’s Luna Palace building at St Kilda. The Victorian Government has committed $5 million in its 2025-26 Budget to help restore the building that is home to the Penny Arcade and dodgems. The palace opened as part of the park in 1912. Luna Park Melbourne, which manages the site, will contribute $17 million to the restoration project.

ResidentialQueensland’s Sunshine Coast has been dethroned after two years of topping the regional migration destination list by Victoria’s second city. According to Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s Regional Movers Index (RMI), 9.3 per cent of total regional migration inflows nationally went to Greater Geelong during the year March, 2024 to March this year. The Sunshine Coast attracted 8.9 per cent during the same period.

A partnership has been struck between PGIM Real Estate and Cadence Property Group to acquire a key infrastructure asset in Western Sydney. PGIM and Cadence partnered up to buy St Marys Intermodal Terminal at 2 Forrester Road, St Marys, from Pacific National for $145 million. The 157,669sq m site has a gross lettable area of 95,940sq m, a 1.5km rail spur and a planned 20,000sq m hardstand expansion. It also has direct freight rail access to Port Botany and is on 10ha of a 43ha site.

The opening of a redeveloped station has marked the completion of the first half of the Victorian section of Australia’s largest freight rail project. Wangaratta Station, the final part of the Beveridge-to-Albury section of the 1600km Inland Rail project, is now operational. McConnell Dowell delivered the Wangaratta Station transformation for Inland Rail.
