    Visitors to the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge are again crowding the fox dens, apparently hoping for a photo of a young fox. Management of the refuge east of Smyrna urged visitors to observe wildlife from a distance so their behavior is not affected. Also, no one should feed the animals. Some visitors are suddenly stopping and causing traffic issues. Due to the same problem last year, the auto tour route at Bombay Hook had to be closed for a while.

    The Newark Police Department has a new community mascot. "Soar" is a large white bird that resembles an eagle, dressed in a police uniform and hat. The costume was created by Character Translations, creators of such iconic mascots as "Gritty" of the Philadelphia Flyers. "Soar" was recently unveiled at John R. Downes Elementary School, one of several schools that participated in a naming contest. The design was inspired by the eagle on the patch of the Newark Police uniform.

    The President of Delaware State University Dr. Tony Allen has joined an Amicus Brief in a U.S. District Court case opposing the policy of targeting non-citizen students and faculty, based on their political views - even though they have legal standing to teach and learn at a U.S. institution of higher learning. The case was filed by the Presidents' Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, which is made up of nearly 600 higher education leaders.

    Eric Thompson resigned suddenly as Mayor of Elsmere at Thursday's Town Council meeting. Thompson had been Mayor for several years. The reasons for his decision appeared a bit murky. There apparently was discontent over the Mayor being absent from the memorial service for Lieutenant Gregg Shelton, who died last month. Thompson said he was in Florida with family at the time.
