Motorcyclist seriously hurt in Hockessin crash

A 20-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition Wednesday evening after being injured while operating a motorcycle. New Castle County Paramedics and members of the Hockessin Fire Company arrived to the intersection of Limestone Road and Mendenhall Road at about 5:45 p.m. A motorcycle and a sedan collided. The man was being treated for a head injury and possible internal injuries. Delaware State Police are investigating the cause of the collision.
Dover Police investigate early morning shooting

Dover Police are investigating a shooting on the east edge of the city. At about 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, police learned of a shooting on Stevenson Drive off White Oak Road. A 23-year-old man who had been standing outside was struck in the lower body and was taken to a hospital. Police are still searching for a suspect or suspects in the shooting. Update: Camden Police back away from local enforcement agreement with ICE

Camden Police are apparently no longer interested in being part of an agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to have their local officers enforce federal immigration laws during their norm al course of work. The Kent County community showed up on the ICE website as having a pending 287(g) agreement with the federal enforcement agency.
Gov. Meyer forms "Food is Medicine" Committee

"Food is Medicine" is the name of a new state committee created by Governor Matt Meyer. Meyer said Tuesday that the goal will be to improve health outcomes, bring down healthcare costs, and to reverse the toll that poor nutrition takes on the overall health and wellness of Delawareans. The program is expected to draw on research and examples from other states, with a priority being to connect residents with high-quality meals and produce.
Camden draws criticism for agreement with ICE

Camden has entered into an agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to allow local police to enforce federal immigration laws during their normal course of work. The Kent County town was the only Delaware community as of Tuesday to have entered into what's known as a 287(g) agreement. The Cecil County Sheriff's Office was also listed as a cooperating agency.

A future home for dozens of low-income senior citizens is under construction in Wilmington. Ministry of Caring's Villa Maria at Old Brandywine Village will occupy nearly a square block along North Market Street, where structures - some boarded up - were recently demolished. It is across the street from where the Ministry expanded from the former Cathedral Church of Saint John.
Wilmington Homelessness Task Force in place

Wilmington now has a Task Force on Homelessness. Mayor John Carney has named members to the panel, which was created by executive order in March. Housing organizations, social services, public safety and local and state governments are represented on the Task Force. The Wilmington Task Force on Homelessness will meet for the first time Tuesday May 6th.

Carry the Load supports services throughout the country such as counseling, adaptive training, suicide prevention, job placements, and scholarships for children of the fallen. In addition to military members and veterans, the group also supports first-responders and their families.
