BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — With warmer temperatures finally arriving in Western New York, Acting Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon announced extended hours for Buffalo’s splash pads and cooling centers on Friday. Splash pads in Buffalo are usually open from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the summer months. Scanlon announced that the splash pads will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily until further notice.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — On Thursday’s Wake Up Wags, we met Mocha, a 4-year-old who is looking for her forever home. Mocha was abandoned in Niagara Falls, according to Liz Marshall, business development and community relations specialist with the Niagara SPCA, and then signed over to the SPCA. She’s been with the SPCA for about a month. “She’s pretty chill,” Marshall said. “She’s got energy, obviously; she’s only 4, but for the most part she’s quiet.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man has been charged with murder after a victim was shot and killed Monday night on Shirley Avenue, according to Buffalo Police. According to officials, officers responded to a shooting call around 8:30 p.m. on the 200 block of Shirley. Officers found a 33-year-old male victim from Buffalo with a gunshot wound to the head, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Dunkirk’s Youth and Recreation Department announced Monday that it has received a $10,000 grant from Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Legacy Funds in order to start a new sports program for local children. The department plans on starting a “sports sampling program” for children ages 5-17 that will feature softball, basketball and soccer throughout the year. The grant will allow the department to give children in need the opportunity to learn basic sports fundamentals for free.
