BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A gas explosion in Buffalo’s Fruit Belt neighborhood Friday night resulted in $175,000 in damages, officials said. Fire crews responded to a fire at 167 Orange St. around 7:45 p.m., which officials said was the result of a natural gas leak that ignited, resulting in damage to both the first and second floors. One resident was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A person was hospitalized following an officer-related shooting Thursday night in Niagara Falls, a Niagara Falls spokesperson said. According to officials, officers were involved in a high-speed pursuit off of Niagara Falls Boulevard. At the end of the pursuit, the vehicle allegedly began to drive toward the officers, and one of the officers shot the driver. The driver was taken to the Erie County Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Former Congressman John LaFalce has died at the age of 85, Erie County Democratic Party Chairman Jeremy Zellner confirmed. A Buffalo native, LaFalce was elected to Congress in 1974 and represented Western New York from 1975-2003. LaFalce represented the 36th Congressional District from 1975-83, the 32nd Congressional District from 1983-93, and the 29th Congressional District from 1993-2003.

(WIVB) — A Buffalo Public Schools teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave after the teacher “inadvertently gave two students edible gummies” on April 1, a Buffalo Public Schools spokesperson confirmed to WIVB News 4. The spokesperson said that the incident occurred at Public School 79, and that it was an isolated incident. “The parents of the two affected students were immediately notified along with the Buffalo Police,” the spokesperson said.
