European chlorine production for the month of August fell both sequentially and year over year to 625,537 metric tons, with daily output of 20,179 metric tons down 5.1% compared to July and 4.9% lower than in the prior-year period, according to Euro Chlor (Brussels), the region’s chlor-alkali industry association.

Inpex Corp., Air Liquide Group SA, LSB Industries Inc. and Vopak Moda Houston LLC have teamed up to potentially develop a 1.1 million metric tons per year (MMt/y) low-carbon ammonia plant located on the Houston Ship Channel, Texas. An investment amount for the proposed development was not given, although Inpex (Tokyo) will “likely be the largest investor in the overall project across the entire value chain, from production to export,” they said.

Chlorine production in Europe declined slightly in June compared to the previous month, with caustic soda stocks sliding to their lowest level of 2023 so far, according to European chlor-alkali industry association Euro Chlor. Daily chlorine output of 19,906 metric tons in June was 0.8% lower than that recorded in May and 12.% down year over year. A total of 597,178 metric tons was produced in June.

Enterprise Products Partners LP (Houston) has announced the start of operations at its second propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant at Mont Belvieu, Texas. Enterprise said the plant, underwritten by long-term, fee-based contracts, has capacity to consume 35,000 barrels per day (b/d) of propane feedstock to produce 1.65 billion pounds (750,000 metric tons) of polymer-grade propylene (PGP) per year.
