Despite the stress and hopelessness residents felt after communities, particularly Altadena and Pacific Palisades, were left destroyed following the relentless wildfires in Los Angeles County earlier this year, a poll revealed most have not considered moving following the traumatic events. However, about a quarter of those surveyed said they have considered leaving the LA area. The poll was conducted by the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies and was co-sponsored by the LA Times.

"I lived with pain, basically 24/7," said Kelsey Oliver, a 32-year-old mother and wife in Oklahoma. They live states apart but share the same struggle. They suffered collectively for more than 15 years, enduring chronic symptoms that stumped their doctors. Both women's symptoms got so bad they could no longer function well enough to work.

It's a day dedicated to giving elected officials and reporters a chance to experience what the 1,200 brave men and women of the Orange County Fire Authority face every day. "We respond to 200,000 calls annually," said Capt. Chris Hamm. Capt. Hamm says 70% of those calls are medical emergencies. The remaining 30% range from cliff, water and animal rescues to active shooter incidents to vehicle crashes to, of course, structure fires.
