The IndyCar Series’ first running of the Indianapolis 500 with hybrid engines was a remarkable success for all of the partners involved in making the energy recovery systems fitted to the field of 33 cars. Reliability with the supercapacitor-based units using technology sourced from Skeleton and Empel, which has been packaged into spec systems for IndyCar by its engine partners at Chevrolet and Honda, has wavered since the 60hp devices were introduce in July of 2024.

Dale Coyne Racing has released Ed Nathman, race engineer for Rinus VeeKay, and John Dick, race engineer for rookie Jacob Abel, and replaced them with the returning Michael Cannon and Mike Colliver, who stood in for Dick at the recent Indianapolis Grand Prix. The change comes after Abel failed to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 — the second consecutive failure for the team to make the show with a rookie driver — and VeeKay was the slowest car in the field.

By Marshall Pruett - May 28, 2025, 6:22 PM UTCThe final numbers are in for Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 and the initial average audience size of 7,050,000 provided by Nielsen’s Fast ratings service has been revised upwards to 7,087,000 viewers on Sunday. The slight increase also helped the original year-on-year increase of 40.3 percent over the 5,024,000 delivered by NBC in 2024 to 41 percent.

Andretti, PREMA penalized for Indy 500 tech violations

The IndyCar Series’ technical inspection team found three cars that breached its rulebook during Sunday's Indianapolis 500, with the Nos. 27 and 28 Andretti Global Hondas and the No. 90 PREMA Racing Chevy being moved to the rear of the finishing order. Marcus Ericsson finished second in the No. 28 Honda and has been moved to 31st. Kyle Kirkwood placed sixth in the No. 27 Honda and is now 32nd, and Ilott was originally credited with 12th and leaves with 33rd place in the final results.
