They traveled hundreds of miles to get here. First by train and then by steamboat from San Francisco Bay to Humboldt Bay. They arrived in Eureka, with less than a dollar in their pocket, but with bold faith, flexibility, and foresight about what could be. The year was 1912 and Mother Bernard was their leader and the eldest of all the Sisters at age 37. Seven novices traveled with Mother Bernard, aged 16 to 24.
