One of the most highly anticipated and fiercely campaigned races in The Record’s coverage area came down to the wire. Challenger Jonathan Center appears to have ousted incumbent Kim Stone for a seat on Highland Park’s City Council by a thin margin, according to unofficial Lake County election results. Center holds a narrow lead of approximately 300 votes — 2,353 votes to longtime council member Stone’s 2,038 — with 25 of 25 precincts reporting, per county election data. Candidate Kevin K.

The Flight 5342 Memorial Skating Performance at Wilmette Ice Skating Rink honoring the victims who died in the Jan. 29 plane crash was unlike a traditional skating performance. It offered a chance for the skating community to grieve and heal together. Many who skated in the event on March 8 at Centennial Ice Rinks in Wilmette were friends of those who died in the tragedy. Some participants were even with the victims just days before their passing.

North Shore residents and music aficionados, Mark and Val Haller have since taken their successful living room music series to the Winnetka Chapel, where they bring new artists to hundreds of attendees twice a month, virtually for free (a $5 reservation fee, which Mark Haller compares to an artist “pre-tip,” deters no-shows).

In its ongoing efforts to reduce flooding throughout the Village and improve stormwater management, Winnetka officials are now looking toward the eastern portion of town to address some of its most frequently impacted areas.
