Apparently satisfied that they have had their say, the public offered no comment May 21 at a Calvert County Planning Commission hearing on the proposed updated master plan for an 81-acre park in the center of the county. As a result of the panel’s unanimous vote, the master plan for Hallowing Point Park has been updated for the first time in over 25 years.

After serving as Calvert County’s elected treasurer for 30 years, Nova Tracy-Soper (R) will retire May 30. As the county treasurer, Tracy-Soper, who was first elected in 1994, has had the responsibility of overseeing the county’s tax collection operations.

A rare opportunity will send a Calvert County teen on a great academic adventure this fall. Luke Erly, 17, who is graduating from Northern High School next Wednesday, was accepted to Oxford University. The United Kingdom university is the English-speaking world’s oldest, with many historians agreeing that there is evidence teaching began there in 1096. “I lived in Calvert County all my life,” Erly said, adding that he has been a student in Calvert’s public school system since kindergarten.

Diners at a seasonal restaurant located on Dowell Road in the Solomons area who might enjoy a potent drink to go with their Monday meatloaf have something to toast. On May 22, the Board of License Commissioners of Calvert County — the liquor board — granted a request for a Class B on sale beer, wine and liquor license transfer for Hidden Harbour. April Whiteman of Hidden Harbour LLC will now be the license holder. The license had previously been held by Matt Gambrill of Calvert Marina.
