It was a workplace with a party atmosphere, as there was a lot to accomplish and much to celebrate. Tuesday afternoon around 60 Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant employees were ready to go to work under a large tent set up in the Lusby facility’s parking lot. The task was to build 100 custom bed frames to aid two regional chapters of Sleep in Heavenly Peace and children living in the three Southern Maryland counties.

Charles CountyIndian Head man charged with theft schemeOn April 14 at 5:21 a.m., Charles sheriff's officers responded to Charleston Court in La Plata for the report of a stolen vehicle. A man told officers that at approximately 5:15 a.m. he started his vehicle and went back inside to get his coffee. When he came back outside, he reported that his car was gone. Officers canvassed the area for the Toyota 4Runner, valued at approximately $50,000, but could not find the vehicle.

Visiting Chesapeake Beach on April 17, Maryland’s new junior U.S. senator declared it was like recapturing part of her childhood. Sen. Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.) said it was always a special occasion when her parents, James and Patricia, would bring the family to the bayside town. “They wanted to get us out of our neighborhood to visit other places whenever they could,” Alsobrooks said, noting that both of her parents worked full-time.

Budget hearing is May 6The Calvert County Commissioners will hold a public hearing May 6 at 7 p.m. to present and receive comments regarding the fiscal 2026 recommended operating and capital improvement budget. The hearing will be held in the commissioners hearing room located at the Calvert County Circuit Courthouse in Prince Frederick. The fiscal 2026 commissioners’ budget document will be made available for public viewing in advance of the hearing at www.calvertcountymd.gov.
