Though they won’t be included on the warrant for the annual Town Meeting in May, at least two other citizen petitions—written to ease seating requirements for liquor licenses—also entered the pipeline this week. The first petition asks the Select Board to request a Home Rule petition to the state Legislature, authorizing the Select Board to issue at least 10 All-Alcohol Licenses to restaurants having a minimum seating capacity of 18 and a maximum seating capacity of 58 people.

A senior trade union official with the INMO and a member of the Western Health Board, she was elected to Galway Corporation in 1967, serving 18 years as a city councillor. Save one administrative correction, the Office of the Attorney General has given Belmont the OK on the MBTA Community Act 3A zoning approved by Town Meeting last fall. Still needed is a stamp of approval from the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC), according to Director and Town Planner Chris Ryan. “The state has to make sure our 3A zoning meets the technical requirements of the law,” Ryan said in an email.

After months of debate, the proposed zoning overlay for downtown Belmont is off the table for the annual Town Meeting in May. Instead, town officials are looking to potentially include it on the warrant for a special Town Meeting in June, if not a fall special Town Meeting. “I think any May date is virtually impossible,” Director and Town Planner Chris Ryan told Select Board members Monday night.
