    Democratic Georgia State Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver entered the world of politics in 1987. The DeKalb County native and attorney says she was in her 30s at the time, and even her late aunt questioned her decision. But Oliver went after what she wanted. “I wanted to serve in the General Assembly. It was a unique opportunity,” explained Oliver, who represents House District 84. Fast forward to more than 30 years later, Oliver has served multiple terms in the Georgia House and Senate.

    07 Gray Ghost 2: Shades of Gray    ~ ~ ~  f r o m   O C T O B E R    2 0 0 4 ~ ~ ~A rustling in the trees signals they are near. One small gray ghost lands on the fence, padding stealthily from post to post and then leaping into a pine tree. From limb to limb, sharp claws tenaciously hold the creature high in its aerial pursuit. Another drops to the ground, this little gray ghost not much more than a puff of smoke and gone just as quickly.

    When Suzie and I last visited Vermont, it was still summer – and the 80-degree day backed that up. Still, there were signs of fall on the move, as seen in these photos, capturing one of the first trees to start their transformation. Andy says this looks to be a banner year for fall foliage thanks to a hot, and lately dry, summer. I don’t know how all that chlorophyll magic works, I only know that I appreciate its prettiness.

    Last week, in the midst of all my potato chip reviewing, I completely forgot that April was National Poetry Month. (Even Taylor Swift paid homage with her latest album release!)So, for this week’s Editor’s Corner, I would like to atone for my forgetfulness by sharing some of my favorite poems by one of my favorite poets: Mary Oliver. I was first introduced to Mary Oliver in my junior year of high school during a poetry unit, and I was not disappointed.
