WUSF is hiring two curious, passionate journalists to launch a project to explore and explain how state government works and directly affects the lives of Floridians. You'll join a news team recognized with state, regional and national accolades for its creative, ambitious and collaborative journalism . It's not just about radio. This project will serve public media stations and other media partners statewide and will use audio, video, digital and social media platforms.

Americans have reached the finish line of the 2024 election. Your emotions about politics this past year may have been all over the place. Apathy. Optimism. Frustration. Fear. Last time there was a presidential race, 77% of registered Florida voters participated. It could be similar this year. That’s because this election includes high-profile constitutional amendments on abortion rights and recreational marijuana. Add to that, U.S. Senate and House races, and a long list of state and local contests.

Family, colleagues and the University for South Florida men’s basketball team on Saturday gathered to pay tribute to the life of Coach Amir Abdur-Rahim. Athletes, coaches and even the USF Rumble pep band joined in the memorial at the Yuengling Center where Abdur-Rahim coached the Bulls to its first-ever regular season conference championship. The 2023-24 record-breaking season was his first – and only - as head coach.

This weekend, residents of several St. Petersburg neighborhoods continued to pile the contents of their homes onto the curb. Hundreds of water-soaked couches, beds, refrigerators and toys lined the streets. Residents, their friends and professional cleaning companies created piles of debris sometimes as tall as the six-feet-storm surge from Hurricane Helene. Sometimes, folks took a break thanks to local volunteers.

Damage from Hurricane Helene is everywhere. And it will take some time before it is collected. That's why officials in Pinellas County and St. Petersburg are urging residents to take it slowly, starting with documenting whatever damage has occurred in and around your home. "Take a ruler and show how high the watermarks are inside and outside of your home," Pinellas County Director of Emergency Management Cathie Perkins said at a briefing Sunday.
