It’s been almost a decade and a half since Youth Lagoon first emerged from Boise, Idaho, with The Year of Hibernation, a dream pop debut that earned cult status for its raw intimacy and bedroom mystique. A lot has changed since Trevor Powers, the artist behind Youth Lagoon, retired in 2016, but he revived the project in 2022. Powers’ latest album, “Rarely Do I Dream,” is a playful, slightly Americana-inspired album, drawn from a box of old home movies in his parents’ basement.

An unsung hero of the San Francisco folk music scene sings the story of her life in an intimate new documentary, “Singing for Justice.” Ten years in the making, the film pays tribute to the extraordinary life and music of Faith Petric, an activist, organizer and folk singer who inspired generations of disciples while earning the suspicion of the FBI. She remained active until her death at age 98. “Singing for Justice” will screen on April 19 at the Tara Theatre.

He spent the next several decades immersed in music and began his professional career at London’s pioneering indie label, Stiff Records. Vinyl started working exclusively with The Clash in 1979 and stayed by their side until the punk icons disbanded in 1986.

Gene Kansas is an author, real estate developer and preservationist who painstakingly researched Sweet Auburn, its most famous sites, including the Ebenezer Baptist Church and Butler Street YMCA, Atlanta’s “Black City Hall,” and others that have not been preserved and live on only in stories and archives.

It’s not too often that a city gathers to explore a centuries-old cemetery together after dark, but that’s the magic of “Illumine.” The annual art exhibition and light installation experience at Oakland Cemetery is one of the rare opportunities the historic site offers for night visits. “Illumine 2025,” taking place April 17-20 and 24-27, is a collaboration between Oakland Cemetery and the local gallery Cat Eye Creative.
