Bracebridge looking for input on sale of visitor information centre

The Town of Bracebridge is looking to sell 3 Ecclestone Dr., known to many as Bird Mill Mews, and is looking for input on its future. The survey is available on EngageBracebridge.ca and will available until Oct. 4. The nearby parkette is not part of the sale. Officials with the town say it cost around $670,000 over the last five years to maintain the property, adding they estimate around $639,000 will be needed to keep the building in good shape over the next decade.
Muskoka Lakes' fire chief sounds alarm over deadly fires

Ryan Murrell, fire chief for the Township of Muskoka Lakes, says taking 60 seconds out of your day on Sept. 28 could save your life. “Being prepared to act in the event of a fire can start with simply pressing the test button and having the confidence that a working smoke alarm is in your home,” explains Murrell.
Final stretch for work on Taylor Rd. bridge in Bracebridge

Starting on Sept. 16, Taylor Rd. near downtown Bracebridge will be back to only one lane as the final touches are put on the project. One-way traffic will only be allowed to go westbound towards downtown. Officials with the District of Muskoka say the closure will remain in effect until the work is done sometime in October.
Carnegie Library building to house town services

The Town of Bracebridge will move its Planning, Development, and Economic Departments into the Carnegie Library building along with the Muskoka Small Business Centre. The move comes after town council approved a recommendation from staff during the Aug. 14 council meeting for the municipality to retain ownership of 94 Manitoba St. for municipal operations.

The Muskoka Community Foundation (MCF) is now accepting applications for its Lake of Bays Community Fund. Lynn DeCaro, executive director of MCF, says the $9,500 fund is designed to support charitable organizations and programs in the township. She explains it can be for an existing program or a new one, so long as it’s benefiting residents in Lake of Bays.

After a few years of uncertainty thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Theatre Muskoka is hoping to continue momentum from its successful 2023 season. Michelle Emson, technical director for Theatre Muskoka, says the upcoming shows at the Rene M. Caisse Theatre in Bracebridge will be a diverse lineup, starting with “The Spirit of Patsy Cline” later this month and “Into the Woods” in Feb. 2025. Theatre Muskoka held its annual general meeting at the Bracebridge Sportsplex Monday evening.
Fall colours beginning to show throughout Muskoka

The best part of fall may depend on who you ask: some say it’s all about Pumpkin Spice Lattes, but others might argue it’s watching the leaves as they change colours. For the latter, Ontario Parks has started tracking the fall colours on its website. Most provincial parks, including Algonquin and Arrowhead, are seeing trees still almost entirely covered in green foliage. However, some parks, like Balsam Lake in Kawartha Lakes, have just started to see some colour change.
Bracebridge swimmer finishes first Paralympics

Mary Jibb took part in four events at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France and reached the medal round in three of them. The Bracebridge swimmer competed in the 100m backstroke, freestyle, and butterfly races along with the 200m individual medley. The 17-year-old qualified for the finals for the backstroke, individual medley, and butterfly finishing fifth, seventh, and eighth, respectively.
