Owen Sound and West Grey won’t be proceeding with any further discussions about a potential joint police service. Councils in both municipalities passed motions at meetings this week cancelling a project to evaluate the feasibility and benefits of joint-policing between Owen Sound and West Grey. The partnership talks were halted because the West Grey Police Association objected to any potential amalgamation of the two police services.

A public meeting’s been called concerning a proposal to build a new Catholic high school in Owen Sound’s east end. The city provided notice a public meeting will be held Monday, June 23 at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers, to allow people to provide feedback on a re-zoning application tied to the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board’s plan to construct a new 12,000-square foot secondary school. The new high school would be located on the west side of 28th Avenue East.

Owen Sound council approved a $5.1-million budget for renovating the city’s 52-year-old fire hall. Council passed motions during a special meeting Monday to set the capital budget for a revamp of the 3rd Avenue East building, and to ask staff for a report with terms of reference to establish a committee to keep tabs on the project. The renovated fire hall will include an expanded apparatus bay, a decontamination area and an exercise room on the main floor.

Saugeen Shores Police have charged a man for an alleged indecent act at a school in the town. Police are announcing an arrest and charges now, but say the incident happened back on April 25. According to police, a man approached a fenced area of a school yard and initiated conversation with students, before exposing himself and fleeing the area. Saugeen Shores Police did not disclose which school the alleged incident occurred at.
