Grey County is moving ahead with plans to replace the Chatsworth Dome ahead of schedule. Council approved sourcing the $1.8 million needed to replace the dome from Transportation Services year end surplus during its meeting on Thursday, after the building suffered a partial collapse. The dome, which stores salt and sand, recently collapsed as a result of packed snow and is no longer deemed safe to use.

South Bruce OPP say a Kincardine man is facing drug charges. On April 8 around 6:07 p.m., police say an officer stopped a vehicle along Highway 21 in Kincardine. After speaking with the driver, the officer detected signs of impairment and placed the driver under arrest. A search resulted in the discovery of about 40 grams of suspected cocaine and the driver was transported for further testing.

Meaford is adopting its 2025 budget, which includes a blended 5.29 per cent tax rate increase. Council adopted the budget during its meeting on April 7, which will result in an annual $214 increase for homes assessed at $273,000. The budget also features $16.4 million for capital projects, which includes various road projects, facility upgrades, and infrastructure enhancements.

The City of Owen Sound is set to launch its new Green Bin Program later this spring. The program will begin the first week of June and will allow residents to dispose of organic waste like food scraps, soiled paper, pet waste, and other compostable materials for curbside collection every week. Plastics, leaf and yard waste, diapers, cigarette butts and ashes, soil or rocks, metal, and glass do not go in the green bin.

Northern Bruce Peninsula is going to consider authorizing price negotiations to replace three local bridges. This comes after council received a structure inspection report in March, where it recommended replacing the Spring Creek Bridge, Heron Point Bridge and the Cherry Hill Road Bridge, costing $1.9 million. Northern Mat and Bridge presented a cost-effective way to replace these bridges using their modular system as opposed to the standard bridge building process.
