TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The failed Washington Square project in downtown Tallahassee has left the capital city with an eyesore, and taxpayers on the hook for repairs. Launched a decade ago, the Washington Square project was supposed to be a hotel, retail space and parking garage just behind the Leon County Courthouse, per multiple commissioners. Instead, it has sat dormant for years, blocking sidewalks and government-owned right-of-way since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - About three weeks after Circle K rejected the City of Tallahassee’s offer to buy land from the gas station in a Northeast Tallahassee neighborhood, city staff are recommending against an eminent domain lawsuit with the company. Nearly ten months ago, Circle K announced plans to build a gas station in the Canopy neighborhood near Welaunee Boulevard and Dempsey Mayo Road.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV)— The Leon County Commission met Tuesday to discuss restricting panhandling and installing speed cameras near schools, among other agenda items. Commissioner David O’Keefe said speed cameras have reduced speeding by 60 to 80 percent in other areas and are intended to enforce the law, not collect fines, without requiring extra law enforcement resources.

Visit Tallahassee said they’re turning their eyes to Doak Campbell Stadium after finding their groove selling out smaller venues in the city. Leon County is entitled to use Doak as part of a $20 million renovation payment for up to 10 days per year.
