The Mediapolis High School baseball team has had a dominating season thus far. The Bulldogs, ranked sixth in Class 2A, started the season 15-1, including 7-0 in the SEI Super Conference South Division. The Bulldogs’ lone loss was a 13-3 setback to 10th-ranked Dyersville Beckman on May 31 in Beckman’s tournament. Mediapolis was rewarded for its effort when the Iowa High School Athletic Association released its Class 1A and 2A district pairings on Wednesday afternoon.

The West Burlington-Notre Dame high school softball program has a long and rich history when it comes to catchers. Lyndsey Kelley is the latest in that lineage. Kelley, a senior, is splitting time between catcher and third base this season for the Falcons, who were 10-7 overall, 5-2 in the SEI Super Conference South Division heading into Thursday's South Division game against Holy Trinity at South Park in West Point.

The 2025 high school soccer season was chock full of talented players, great teams and plenty of hard-fought competition. Area players were rewarded for their hard work and dedication to the sport when the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association announced its all-state teams on Monday. Eight area players — four girls, four boys — were recognized for their individual achievements and contributions to their teams' success.

Hunter Pender is the latest in a long line of great girls soccer players to come through Burlington High School. Pender, a Class 2A second team all-state selection, received a rare honor when she was selected to play in the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association Senior Showcase All-Star Game at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines. Despite having no time to practice in hot conditions, Pender said it was an experience she won't soon forget. "It was a lot of fun," Pender said.

After going 0-for-5 in a doubleheader sweep of Fort Madison two weeks ago, Burlington High School senior Evan Hecox asked coach Griffin Dean to move him to the ninth spot in the batting order. Dean was having none of it. Dean proved to be correct in keeping Hecox in the No. 3 hole. Hecox went a combined 6-for-9, scored a run and drove in the game-winning run to help the Grayhounds sweep Fairfield in a battle for Southeast Conference supremacy Monday night at Community Field.
