    The Burlington High School baseball team opened Southeast Conference play Monday with a doubleheader sweep of Washington on the Demons’ home field. The Grayhounds won by scores of 8-3 and 9-4. In the 8-3 victory, Ian Mason went 3-for-5, scored a run and drove in a run. Noah Krieger batted in three runs and Evan Hecox drove in a pair of runs. Logan Messer also had an RBI. Austin Donahoe had a double and scored a run, while Hecox, Messer, Matthew Mercer. Krieger and Buxton Carlson each scored a run.

    WILLIAMSBURG — The Notre Dame-West Burlington high school boys soccer team deserved a better fate. The Nikes won the SEI Super Conference regular season and tournament championships, posted substate wins over perennial power and nemesis Davenport Assumption and 10th-ranked Maquoketa and played an exciting, entertaining style of soccer that not only kept the entire team engaged, but brought smiles to the faces of their loyal fans.

The sixth-ranked Nikes played fifth-ranked Williamsburg in a Class 2A state quarterfinal match Monday night at Williamsburg. Only West, a sophomore, wasn’t on the pitch playing his customary attacking midfielder position for the Nikes.
