Anna Buxton has found a new role on the Burlington High School girls tennis team this year. As the lone senior, Buxton is trying to be a team leader while at the same time facing the best players from opposing teams as the Grayhounds’ No. 1 singles player. Buxton is 2-2 thus far, and has helped BHS to a 3-1 record heading into Thursday’s Southeast Conference dual at Mount Pleasant. Buxton, who also was a standout volleyball player for the Grayhounds, is having the time of her life as a senior.

Ian Mason was going to be a baseball player. An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Mason was going follow in the footsteps of his father, Scott, who was an all-state player for Burlington High School who went on to play for Arkansas and Western Illinois at the NCAA Division I level. Something funny happened along the way. Ian Mason, a senior at BHS, fell in love with bowling. And just like that, his college path changed, too.

Kohen Dietzenbach stepped out of his older brother’s shadow and had his moment in the spotlight. After watching his older brother, Notre Dame High School senior Kaiden Dietzenbach, win a state wrestling championship back in February, the younger Dietzenbach had his own moment of glory Tuesday afternoon at Flint Hills Municipal Golf Course.

FORT MADISON — On a chilly, windy Tuesday afternoon, conditions weren’t exactly conducive for playing tennis. In turned out to be a perfect day for the Burlington High School boys tennis team. The Grayhounds kept their perfect record intact, sweeping Fort Madison, 9-0, in a Southeast Conference dual at the Fort Madison High School tennis courts. BHS improved to 2-0 on the season, sweeping both duals by identical 9-0 scores. "This is only our second meet of the year,” BHS coach Brian Mumm said.
