After a roller coaster start to the weekend series, Saturday was more of the same for the UL Ragin Cajuns. However, they weren’t on the winning side of this one, falling 10-6 to the Dallas Baptist Patriots and tying the weekend series with the No. 21-ranked team in the country. The Cajuns (7-8) will now look to respond in the rubber match as they're looking for their second series win over a Top 25 opponent at home, finishing off Nebraska at home earlier in the season.

What could’ve been a special night for the Lafayette High Mighty Lions turned sour quickly as they fell to the Jesuit Blue Jays 45-7 in the first round of the LHSAA Division I Select playoffs at the Shrine on Airline in Metairie on Friday night. Lafayette committed five turnovers in the contest, including three interceptions and two lost fumbles. Three of the turnovers came in the first quarter as Jesuit held a 17-0 lead after 12 minutes.

Richmond Saunier scored five touchdowns on the ground as the Lafayette High Mighty Lions controlled the Golden Tornados of Sulphur 46-15 to finish the regular season 5-5. After a scoreless first quarter of action, the Lions erupted for 23 points in the second quarter, including three touchdowns from Saunier. The sophomore signal caller opened the second half with his fourth touchdown of the night as Lafayette continued to move the football with ease against the Sulphur defense.

CARENCRO The Carencro Golden Bears picked up their second straight win in District 3-5A play by taking down the Lafayette High Mighty Lions 28-21 at the Open Air Cro Dome. Officially named Mac Barousse Field in honor of the Bears’ longtime coach, the Bears returned home for the first time in four weeks and used a dominant performance from their junior quarterback Chantz Babineaux to carry them to a 2-4 record.

SCOTT The Lafayette High Mighty Lions got into a back-and-forth affair with the Sam Houston Broncos but couldn’t finish it late as Sam Houston picked up the 41-34 win. Kevon’te Landry had four total touchdowns for the Lions in the losing effort, but some big drives in the second half from the Broncos offense were the difference in the game. Lafayette jumped out to a 10-0 lead after Landry threw his lone passing touchdown of the contest, a 56-yard strike to Jamieon Brown late in the first quarter.

Southside rolls in District 3-5A opener over Lafayette High. “Body, body, body, then the knockout punch.”That was the philosophy of Jess Curtis’ Southside squad as they used their flexbone offense to perfection in a 28-0 thrashing of the Lafayette High Mighty Lions. Lafayette High started the contest with the football after winning the coin toss and was able to move down the field pretty quickly with the use of their skill players Jamieon Brown and Kamorie Boyd.

For the first time since 2021 and the first under Garrett Kraemer, the Lafayette High Mighty Lions are 3-0 to open the season. Kraemer’s squad celebrated homecoming with a dominant 42-0 win over Mamou at Acadiana, the Lions’ temporary home for the 2024 season while Lafayette High builds a brand new campus. The Lions' offense got rolling early with a Kevon’te Landry 10-yard touchdown scamper just four minutes into the game to jump out to an early 7-0 advantage.

ST. MARTINVILLE The Lafayette High Mighty Lions had their first road test of the 2024 season, passing with a strong second half of play in picking up a 26-14 road win over the St. Martinville Tigers. Kevon’te Landry once again led the way for the Lions with three total touchdowns in the contest, including a 66-yard score in the first quarter with a quarterback draw up the middle. His touchdown was answered on the ensuing kickoff with a 90-yard return from Tigers quarterback Khyrie Francisco.

Kevon’te Landry celebrated his birthday the only way he knows how: carrying the Lafayette High Mighty Lions to victory. The do-it-all star had three touchdowns on the night as the Lions took down the Franklin Hornets 34-14 at Acadiana High School. The elements made the first quarter a sloppy one as both teams committed turnovers but weren’t able to capitalize and put points on the board in the first quarter.
