The race for City Hall just got $1 million more expensive. In a contest quickly being defined by outside spending, the super PAC backing Mayor Michelle Wu’s reelection bid reported late Wednesday that it raised more than $740,000 in a three-month span, taking hefty donations from an investment manager and mother of one of Wu’s top aides, as well as several labor groups. A separate super PAC backing Kraft remained busy, too.

Massachusetts lawmakers on Monday unveiled a deal they said would give the MBTA $535 million from a spending package built with extra money generated by the state’s , cash that would help shore up the agency’s rickety budget. The MBTA’s cut accounts for a lion’s share of the $1.39 billion agreement released by House and Senate leaders. Legislators said they reached the deal following weeks of talks shaded by their dramatically different plans for the cash-strapped transit agency.

But so far, there’s been a lot of fighting amongst themselves. In recent weeks, Democratic leaders have jabbed at each other in press releases. They’ve argued about who is, and is not, attending hearings. And they have yet to even agree on rules governing their own operations, let alone on much actual legislation as state-level Democrats fashion themselves as bulwarks against Trump’s administration. In five months, the Legislature has passed just six new laws.
