    Many protesters lined West Main Street at 12th Avenue Saturday afternoon for a “No Kings” demonstration to denounce the policies of President Donald Trump. Organized by the Bryan County Democrats and the Bryan County Federation of Democratic Women, it was one of more than 2,100 demonstrations across the U.S. The protests were held the same day as Trump’s birthday and the military parade in Washington D.C.A handful of counter protesters were across the street from them.

    The Rick Mote Legacy Baseball Diamonds at the Multi-Sports Complex were dedicated May 30 in his honor. Mote worked 47 years for the city until his recent retirement and during a city council meeting last month, Parks & Recreation Manager Ryan Brewer asked that the baseball fields be named in Mote’s honor and the council agreed.

    The 27th Magnolia Festival concluded Saturday night at the Choctaw Event Center and the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased with the turnout and the many volunteers who made the festival happen. The festival, that was May 29-31, has been a tradition since 1997 and it has been held every year except during COVID in 2020.
