More than 1,200 children in Macclesfield are to receive free school dinners. The Government has announced that half a million more children will receive a Free School Meal from September 2026. MP Tim Roca welcomed this news, hopeful it will go some way to driving down the number of children living in poverty. Mr Roca said: "This historic initiative will not only enhance attainment, behaviour and learning, but will put £500 back in the pocket of hard-working families.

Anti-social behaviour has dropped by more than 65 per cent since powers were introduced in Macclesfield town centre to crackdown on booze-fuelled disorder. Ward councillor Ashley Farrall (non-grouped) was speaking at Thursday's (June 5) meeting of the environment and communities committee where he asked members to back recommendations to extend the public spaces protection order (PSPO) for another three years.

A cycling protest is planned in response to the 'disgraceful' state of roads in Macclesfield. Green Party campaigner John Knight is calling on Cheshire East Council to take 'urgent' action to improve the safety of roads in the town. In a bid to make his voice heard, John is organising a demonstration to take place this Saturday (June 7). He said: "The roads in Macclesfield need urgent attention.

A gin distillery has been put up for sale. Clare and Mike Ryan, owners of Edge Distillery in Astbury, have announced they are looking to sell up. They say that health issues left them with no choice but to make this 'difficult' decision. "It's with mixed emotions that we share some very sad personal news," reads a post on the distillery's Facebook.
