On his left wrist, Joseph writes "still alive" with a cross next to it. He writes bible verses or encourages a defiant response to outside opinions on his right wrist. It's a tribute to Boston Red Sox All-Star center fielder Jarren Duran, who has discussed a suicide attempt and battle with depression.

Clyde softball is unbeaten in the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division. Sophomore Taitum Jeffrey no-hit Sandusky as the Fliers clinched a share of the conference crown and Clyde topped Tiffin Columbian 18-1 in five innings Wednesday to take the championship outright. The Fliers (18-5, 9-0) shared the title with Norwalk last season. "Every year it's a goal to win the SBC championship," Jeffrey said.

Kara Schneider played third base as a freshman, but Woodmore softball never won more games than it lost the last three years. The Wildcats finished 13-13 last season, 9-17 the year before and 6-20 Schneider's first season. Schneider scored 29 runs and drove in 25 to help uplift Woodmore (12-6, 9-5) so far during her final season. "Going in, I wasn't thinking we'd do this well," Schneider said. "Coach (Scott Smith) is proud of us; he expects a lot. This is the most wins for a team he's coached.
