    STAMFORD — Police asked residents to avoid the area of Canal Street and South State streets Wednesday evening after a homicide suspect tracked to the area shot himself. According to police, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot himself as an officer approached him on Canal Street. Officers immediately attempted lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital, police said.

    STAMFORD — Three men are facing various firearms charges after police discovered guns, ammunition and high-capacity magazines at a home on Hillside Avenue this month, officials said. According to police, after locating the firearms on Jan. 3, they obtained warrants to arrest Jayson Montoya, 19, and Cincere Stanley, 21, of Stamford, and Marquis Williams, 20, of Ansonia.

    STAMFORD — Police are looking to identify three men suspected of stealing over $20,000 worth of merchandise from a local store. According to Stamford police, the men entered Engel's Fur on Bedford Street and stole the items around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. They then left the scene in a silver Ford pickup with a Florida license plate, police said. Police have released photos of the suspects and the pickup truck.

    STAMFORD — Police say a 20-year-old man has been accused of sexually assaulting and impregnating a 13-year-old girl, according to the warrant for his arrest. Stamford police have charged Yeison Vasquez-Garza with second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. He appeared Thursday in state Superior Court in Stamford where a judge kept his bond at $200,000. Judicial records show he remained in custody on Friday.

Richard Dabate has been sentenced to 65 years in prison for the murder of his wife Connie Dabate on Dec. 23, 2015. In a statement before the sentence was handed down, Dabate maintained his innocence, and said he would continue fighting for justice for Connie and himself.
