    Cambridgeshire and the surrounding areas were home to many RAF bases during the Second World War. Many have since reverted to rural use. One example is RAF Wratting Common, which was near Newmarket in Suffolk. The base was built late in the war in 1942 and around 1,500 personnel were stationed there. The airfield was initially named RAF West Wickham, but changed to its new name in August 1943. It is said that this was to avoid similarities with another station in High Wycombe (Bomber Command HQ).

    The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will be making a major change to Carer's Allowance next week. From April 7, the earnings limit for the benefit will be rising. Carer's Allowance, which is claimed by around 1.4 million people in the UK, is worth £81.90 a week and is awarded if you care for someone at least 35 hours a week. People can work alongside it, but cannot earn over £151 a week after tax, National Insurance, pension contributions, and allowable expenses.

    A car has been left battered after being involved in a hit-and-run in a Cambridgeshire town on Monday morning (March 31). The crash happened in Godmanchester at around 8.10am. Officers were called to reports of the incident on West Street. Two cars were involved, one of which did not stop at the scene. A photo posted to social media showed the damage caused to one of the vehicles. It was confirmed by Cambridgeshire Police that no injuries were reported.

    A woman has been taken to hospital after a crash near a Cambridgeshire village on Monday afternoon (March 31). The crash took place at the junction linking School Road with Ramsey Road in Broughton. Emergency services, including police and ambulance, were called at around 12.36pm. One of the cars involved left the road and ended up in a ditch. A woman was taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital for further assessment and care.
