    Since the Medal of Honor’s establishment in 1861, less than 1% of servicemembers have received one — a select few out of millions. Two of them have UTA roots. Col. Neel E. Kearby and Gen. Richard E. Cavazos were members of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program when the university was known as North Texas Agricultural College. Now with the National Medal of Honor Museum honoring their service, UTA’s military roots are being brought into the limelight.

    UTA men’s basketball (7-11, 0-4) remains defeated in Western Athletic Conference play after suffering a heartbreaking overtime loss at the hands of Utah Valley University (12-6, 4-0) 85-83. College Park Center was buzzing in support of the Mavericks' first WAC home game of the season. The team also hosted the UTA Apartment and Residence Hall Night as a part of Maverick Stampede. The game was a tightly contested battle from start to finish, with both teams dealing blow after blow.

    Diego Benitez, UTA men’s tennis head coach, released the team’s spring 2025 schedule Monday. Benitez, now entering his 20th season in the position, is primed for a Western Athletic Conference three-peat. On the heels of back-to-back regular season and tournament conference championships, the team will begin its quest for a third straight NCAA tournament Sunday, heading to Norman, Oklahoma, to face Oklahoma University.

    The Dallas Wings officially introduced new head coach Chris Koclanes on Thursday during a Zoom press conference. Koclanes is currently in his second year as an assistant coach at the University of Southern California and has over a decade of WNBA and Division women’s coaching experience. Latricia Trammell, former Wings head coach, was let go in October after two seasons with the organization. She led the team to a 22-18 record in her first season, the best since the franchise relocated to Dallas.

    Two weeks after J.T. Wenger, former UTA head volleyball coach, resigned to take the reins at Gonzaga University, sophomore outside hitter Sjakkie Donkers followed. Wenger announced Donkers as his first signee Friday after becoming Gonzaga’s head coach, according to a Gonzaga press release. “I am excited to add Sjakkie to the Gonzaga volleyball program,” Wenger said in the press release. “She brings a competitive attitude and volleyball acumen that will make an immediate impact.
