CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A woman was seriously hurt in an overnight shooting, according to Chesapeake Police. At around 2:43 a.m.., officers responded to the 3000 block of Fireside Road in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they located a woman who had been shot inside a residence. Paramedics rushed the woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. This investigation remains ongoing.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Portsmouth fire crews are working to evacuate nearly 150 inmates from the city jail after a fire started in basement. Portsmouth Sheriff Michael Moore told 10 On Your Side’s Kiahnna Patterson deputies noticed smoke around 1:45 a.m. this morning. Moore says the inmates were moved to lower floors because the smoke from the fire went up an elevator shaft, which has access to each floor of the jail.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Portsmouth Police are investigating two separate shooting scenes. Officers were called to the 3500 block of Commonwealth Avenue just after 11 p.m. on Nov. 11 for gunshots heard in the area. When they arrived, they found four people who had been shot. Paramedics rushed those victims to the hospital with serious injuries. About 30 minutes later, police responded to another shooting in the 1100 block of Virginia Avenue. Arriving officers found a man with a gunshot wound.

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two Hampton Roads hospitals have received some major national recognition. Sentara Norfolk General and Sentara Obici have been recertified as Magnet hospitals, one of the most prestigious professional recognitions a hospital can receive. The recognition shows excellence in nursing standards and education, as well as excellence in patient care. This is the fourth time Norfolk General has won the achievement, one earned by fewer than 2 percent of hospitals nationwide.
