CAPITAN — Martha and Ron Muñez moved from Dallas to a home in Alto three weeks ago, with the intention of retiring in the peaceful rural community north of Ruidoso. Then, Monday afternoon, Martha texted her husband — who had temporarily returned to Texas — photos of a towering plume of smoke approaching their home. He told her to leave immediately.
