A 3.0-magnitude earthquake rattled eastern Washington on Wednesday, April 16, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The 8.4-mile deep quake hit about 5 miles from Tonasket at 7:23 a.m., according to the USGS. More than 20 people from as far away as Coolin, Idaho, and Victoria, British Columbia, reported feeling the tremor to the agency. Tonasket is in Okanogan County, about a 165-mile drive northwest from Spokane. The city has a population of 1,103, according to the Census Bureau.

In a shift from recent years, the majority of Americans now have a negative view toward Israel, according to new polling, which comes as the war in Gaza marks a year and a half long. In the latest Pew Research Center survey, 53% of respondents said they have a somewhat or very unfavorable opinion of Israel, marking an 11-point increase from 42% in 2022, when Pew last asked the question.
