A 3.0-magnitude earthquake rattled eastern Washington on Wednesday, April 16, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The 8.4-mile deep quake hit about 5 miles from Tonasket at 7:23 a.m., according to the USGS. More than 20 people from as far away as Coolin, Idaho, and Victoria, British Columbia, reported feeling the tremor to the agency. Tonasket is in Okanogan County, about a 165-mile drive northwest from Spokane. The city has a population of 1,103, according to the Census Bureau.

A man was kidnapped behind a Safeway in Washington and held captive for days, deputies said. The incident happened April 6 in Ephrata, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. A car drove up and told the man to get inside to get warm, deputies said. When he did, the driver threatened his life if he tried to get out, deputies said.
