    A rattlesnake was lurking in leaves when it bit a 72-year-old woman at her Arizona home, fire officials said. Firefighters responded to the area at about 11:50 a.m. June 24 in Sahuarita, the Santa Rita Fire District said in a Facebook post. Sahuarita is about a 25-mile drive south from Tucson. The snake struck “unexpectedly” once the woman stepped on her front porch, fire officials said. It was hiding in leaves near the door.

Someone reported finding a body June 22 in the Swift Reservoir, just south of Mount St. Helens, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. Deputies and the county coroner got on a boat to recover it, authorities said.

    A man lost in the woods for five days was discovered after someone heard a voice calling for help, deputies in Washington said. The witness called 911 at about 12:30 a.m. June 21 in Poulsbo, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. A deputy then went to the area and heard “a faint, distressful voice coming from the woods from a man saying he had fallen from a tree,” authorities said.
